Dear Reader:
THANK YOU for giving my blog a glance.
I want my first post to be a “welcome mat” to those interested in what higher education is like in 2011.
It must be easy with all the new tools like the internet and easy access to information, right.
Is it easy? No! However with all the electronic tools at a student’s disposal it can become easier, and it can be fun at times, however the College universe should be a close approximation to real life at a corporation, with deadlines and scheduling that allows for no mistakes. That may be surprising to some, but if college were not that way, students would enter the job world and be in for a big surprise. In fact, in 2011 many are going from a pleasant time in the classroom setting to becoming destitute at times.
WHYwould anyone chronicle their passage through college?
The answer is not easy, but in simple terms, many students drift through college and each course becomes a routine. They work their way up to a very high level of attainment, but one day they have to recall something from the first year, something necessary. What happens? They may forget. Eyes turn toward them, and they realize that the beginning knowledge is just as important as the end. Therefore, my idea to help myself along later is to keep a chronicle for each course from now on, although the other courses will be off line.
One of my scientist teachers said that even when she was on Spring break at Daytona Beach she did get in the sun a bit but she was always going over things from her class, reading the textbook over and over again. Well, she did end up with a job at a SUNY Community College, but I am wondering if she should have had a little fun while she was still young, because that situation happens only once and for the fortunate students.
In the following weeks, I hope to give you an idea of first, what a New York State college is like, and second I want to convey an idea of what distance learning is like on the WWW. I hope you are entertained and learn from it.
Sincerely,
Robert Greenwald
